Super Pups Program
At Forrern Dobermanns, we are dedicated to nurturing well-rounded, resilient, and high-performing dogs. To achieve this, we have adopted proven early stimulation methods that enhance the physiological and psychological development of our puppies. This approach is rooted in research-backed practices and tailored to support our commitment to producing healthy, adaptable, and confident Dobermanns.

Understanding Performance and Early Development
Performance and resilience in dogs are shaped by more than just genetics. While hereditary traits play a role, studies have shown that factors such as training, management, and early-life experiences significantly influence a dog's abilities. Research on various species, including rodents, horses, and dogs, highlights the profound impact of early stimulation on long-term outcomes.

For example, studies on laboratory animals reveal that mild early stress can improve an individual’s ability to cope with challenges later in life. Similarly, research on canines has demonstrated that early neurological exercises foster better stress tolerance, enhanced problem-solving skills, and improved overall health. These findings underscore the value of structured early stimulation programs in breeding and raising dogs.
The Early Neurological Stimulation Program
Inspired by the U.S. military’s "Bio Sensor" program (popularly known as the "Super Dog" program), Forrern Dobermanns implements a series of early neurological stimulation exercises with our litters. This program focuses on a critical developmental window from the third to the sixteenth day of life, a period of rapid neurological growth and development. By gently introducing controlled stimuli during this time, we aim to activate and enhance our puppies' nervous systems, providing them with lasting benefits.
The Five Exercises
Each puppy is handled individually once a day to perform the following five exercises. Each activity lasts only 3-5 seconds to ensure the stimulation is effective without causing undue stress:
-
Tactile Stimulation – Using a soft object like a cotton swab, we gently tickle the area between the puppy's toes on one foot.
-
Head Held Erect – The puppy is held upright so that its head is directly above its tail, stimulating balance and orientation.
-
Head Pointed Down – The puppy is gently inverted, with its head pointed downward to activate its vestibular system.
-
Supine Position – The puppy is placed on its back in the handler's hands, encouraging comfort and adaptability in a vulnerable position.
-
Thermal Stimulation – The puppy is placed on a cool, damp towel for a brief moment, introducing it to a mild thermal challenge.

These exercises are designed to provide gentle neurological stimulation that does not naturally occur during early development. While some puppies may resist, and others may remain indifferent, the exercises are always conducted with care and consistency to avoid overstimulation.

Benefits of Early Neurological Stimulation
Puppies that undergo this program have shown measurable improvements in several areas:
-
Cardiovascular Health – Enhanced heart rate and stronger heartbeats.
-
Stress Resilience – Greater tolerance to stress and improved responses to challenging situations.
-
Adrenal Function – Strengthened adrenal glands for better hormonal balance.
-
Disease Resistance – Increased immunity and overall health.
-
Cognitive Abilities – Superior problem-solving skills and adaptability.

In temperament assessments and competitive scenarios, these puppies tend to exhibit calm, composed behaviours, making them more resilient and focused than their non-stimulated counterparts. They approach challenges with curiosity and confidence, traits that are essential for Dobermanns in working, sporting, and family roles.
Responsible Implementation
While the benefits of early neurological stimulation are significant, it is essential to approach these exercises responsibly. Overstimulating puppies or exceeding the recommended duration can have adverse effects. At Forrern Dobermanns, we carefully monitor each puppy's responses to ensure that the program is beneficial and supportive of their development. These exercises complement, rather than replace, routine handling, play, and socialization activities, which remain integral to raising well-adjusted dogs.

Our Commitment
At Forrern Dobermanns, we believe that the foundation of a great dog is laid in its earliest days. By incorporating structured early neurological stimulation into our breeding program, we aim to give our puppies the best possible start in life. This method not only aligns with our mission to produce healthy, well-balanced Dobermanns but also reflects our dedication to ethical and evidence-based breeding practices.
Through this approach, we strive to raise dogs that excel in health, performance, and temperament, ensuring they are ready to thrive in any role they undertake—be it as a working companion, a competitive athlete, or a beloved family member.
